Albert Lea U10 girls’ hockey team wins home tournament

Albert Lea U10 girls hockey team won its home tournament on Jan. 5, according to a press release.
In the first round on Jan. 3, Albert Lea beat Osseo/Maple Grove 7-0. Laynee Behrends recorded a hat trick, Ally Rasmussen scored two goals, and Malana Thompson and Delani Hernandez each added a goal. Lucy Sherman dished out a game-high three assists, and Josie Venem had two.
On Jan. 4, Albert Lea beat the Minneapolis Storm 9-0. Six different skaters scored for Albert Lea. Laynee Behrends, Delani Hernandez and Taylor Stanek each scored two goals, and Ally Rasmussen, Lauren Cookle and Sadie Neist each scored once. Maddie Schneider recorded the shutout in goal.
Later on Jan. 4, Albert Lea scored seven first-period goals to beat Rosemount 7-0. Ally Rasmussen and Josie Venem both scored two goals, and Taylor Stanek, Delani Hernandez, and Lucy Sherman each scored once.
In the championship game on Jan. 5, Albert Lea faced off against Prior Lake. Prior Lake scored first 2 minutes into the first period, but Delani Hernandez answered for Albert Lea five minutes later. Ally Rasmussen added a goal in the second period and another in the third. Albert Lea went on to a 3-1 victory. The whole team showed great effort and excellent team-work throughout the whole tournament, according to John Schneider, Albert Lea’s team manager. Albert Lea (13-1 overall) is coached by Dan Rasmussen, Troy Neist and Brad Fjelsta.
