The Albert Lea wrestling team produced five tournament champions Saturday to win the eight-team Maple River invite.

“It was lots of fun, and we won a lot of matches,” said Albert Lea head coach Larry Goodnature. “The kids gained a lot of confidence.”

Albert Lea’s Garrett Aldrich, Gavin Ignaszewski and Beau Johnsrud swept the 106- through 120-pound weight classes to be tournament champions.

Tim Christianson and William Mendez both pinned their opponents in the championship match.

Second-place finishers for the Tigers were Bryce Hoyt, Santana Acosta, Devin Nelson and Derek Samudio. Blake Simon took third. Nick Kromminga and Dominic Fadden finished fourth.

Next, Albert Lea will host Rochester Mayo at 7 p.m. Thursday.
