A 49-year-old Hartland woman died Monday afternoon after a head-on collision on Interstate 35 south of Owatonna.

Joell K. Quiram was reportedly driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue northbound in the southbound lanes of the interstate when she collided with a 2003 Kenworth semi traveling southbound at 12:05 p.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

It is unclear how Quiram ended up in the southbound lanes or if she crossed the median.

The state patrol report stated Quiram was not wearing her seat belt and the road was dry at the time of the crash.

She appears to have died at the scene. The report stated Salto was not injured.

There were no passengers in both vehicles.

Authorities closed the southbound lanes for several hours as emergency crews responded to the crash. A detour sent traffic onto Highway 30.

The Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Owatonna Fire Department and Gold Cross ambulance assisted at the scene.
