Man seriously injured after head-on crash on I-35

CLARKS GROVE — A South Dakota man was seriously injured Tuesday night in a head-on collision on an icy portion of Interstate 35 near the Clarks Grove and Hollandale exit.
Steven D. Selvig, 20, of Platte, S.D., was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. He had to be extricated from his vehicle.
David A. Vanderploeg, 62, of Hollandale, was headed north in a 2008 Ford pickup when he lost control and crossed the median into the southbound lanes, according to the State Patrol and Vanderploeg. He collided with a 1997 Ford Taurus headed south, driven by Selvig.
Vanderploeg was not injured.
The report stated both men were wearing their seat belts.
No alcohol was detected.
