Olga Jacobsen, 100, Faribault

Funeral services for Olga Jacobsen, 100, of Faribault and formerly of Freeborn will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Freeborn Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate. Interment will be at Freeborn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Olga died on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Milestone Senior Center in Faribault.

Olga Adeline Jacobsen was born on Nov. 1, 1913, to Anton and Lena (Oustad) Norby in Belmond, Iowa. The family moved to rural Hartland. Olga graduated from Freeborn High School in 1932 and from the Naeve Hospital School of Nursing in Albert Lea with a registered nursing degree in 1936. Olga married Elton Jacobsen on Jan. 10, 1937, and they farmed west of Freeborn until 1996 and then moved to Real Life Coop in Faribault. After Elton died in 1998, Olga later moved to Heritage House and then to Milestone Senior Center. Olga greatly enjoyed her family, painting, photography, gardening and traveling. She was a member of the Freeborn Congregational UCC and an associate member of Faribault Congregational UCC. At Freeborn, she was a member of Women’s Fellowship and taught vacation Bible school for several years.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Borwege of Faribault; grandson, Terry (Karen) Borwege; granddaughter, Wendy (Jeff) Hansen; great-grandchildren Bill (Bonnie) Borwege, Sarah (Matt) Valentyn, Nicole Borwege, Chelsea Borwege, Ryan Hansen and Ben Hansen; great-great-grandchildren Kaylyn, Gage and Lauren Valentyn and Sage, Maya and Brooke Borwege; and many nieces and nephews.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elton; son, Robert Jacobsen; grandson, Timothy Borwege; son-in-law, Wayne Borwege; sister, Maude Nelson; and brother, Harley Norby.

Memorials may be given to the Congregational UCC of Freeborn or the Faribault Area Hospice.
