USC girls win 7 straight

The United South Central girls’ basketball team climbed to second place in the Gopher Conference standings with a 62-57 home win Monday against Blooming Prairie.

The Rebels (11-3 overall, 5-2 Gopher Conference) are on a seven-game winning streak and haven’t lost in 2014. The last blemish on their schedule was a one-point loss at the St. Clair tournament against Jackson County Central.

Against Blooming Prairie (10-3 overall, 5-2 Gopher Conference) — the team that held the No. 2 spot in the standings last week — USC had five players with more than seven points.

Tara Bauman led USC’s backcourt with 17 points, while Taylor Schultz added 11. Anissa Janzig earned 12 points and eight rebounds in the paint and Shianne Robertson and Lauren Allis combined with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Rebels won the rebounding battle 36-28, USC head coach Stu Hendrickson said.

USC also excelled behind the arc. In the first half, Bauman drained four 3-pointers.

Next, the Rebels host NRHEG. USC and NRHEG played on Dec. 5 and the Panthers won 80-19.
