The Tigers’ Roar talent show at Albert Lea High School has been a tradition for about 60 years, and this year is no different.

Director Diane Heaney, a vocal music teacher at the high school for more than 20 years, is directing the show again for the first time in 12 years. Heaney said auditions were in early February and about 35 students tried out. Around 20 students will perform in the show.

Tigers’ Roar will show in the Albert Lea High School auditorium at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission will be $5, and proceeds go into funding for the school’s arts and music programs.

“We have singing, dancing, rap … this year’s show has everything,” Heaney said.

The show is a mixture of singing, dancing and instrumental performances, and there’s a different sketch put on by this year’s masters of ceremony in between each act. According to Heaney, the emcees have come up with their own material based on reality TV shows.

Heaney said she is looking forward to this week’s performances.

“The kids really did a good job of coming up with so many unique things,” she said.
