Alden-Conger girls fall in section tourney

The Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team was eliminated Monday from the Section 2A tournament after a loss in the second round.

The Knights trailed Mankato Loyola by seven points at halftime, but the Crusaders pushed the lead to double digits in the second half and won 80-45.

Liesel Theusch led Alden-Conger with 18 points, and Brittany Waters added 13.

Brooke Reyerson led the Knights on the glass with eight rebounds to go with five points, two assists and a steal.

On the season, Theusch averaged 13.8 points per game, and Karina Skov averaged 10.4. Theusch also led the Knights in rebounds per game with 7.6. Reyerson added 7.3 rebounds per game.

The season was up and down for the Knights. They won eight of their first 12 games but lost their next seven outings. Alden-Conger ended the regular season by winning three of its last five games, and the Knights beat Mountain Lake Area 50-48 in the first round of the section tournament.
