Abad Gasca, 1923-2014

Funeral services for Abad V. Gasca, 90, of Stewartville will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Revs. Timothy T. Reker and Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans groups.

Abad died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville.

Abad was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Albert Lea, the son of Pablo and Maria (Gomez) Gasca. He graduated from Albert Lea High School.

He was united in marriage to Adela Sotelo on Aug. 2, 1947, in Albert Lea.

Abad served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Albert Lea American Legion and St. Theodore Catholic Church. He worked for many years for Wilson Meat Packing Co. in Albert Lea.

Abad loved music, doing various woodworking projects and his trips to the casino.

He is survived by his children Daniel (Joyce) Gasca of Plymouth, Tom (Kathy) Gasca of Stewartville and Patricia (Wayne) Schmidt of St. Paul; grandchildren Chad (Wendy) Gasca, Ryan Gasca, Erik Liudahl, Amber Diderrich, Lindsey (Bill) Royer, Christine (Brendan) Holloway, Jay Schmidt and Jake Schmidt; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Arianna and “Little Abe;”one brother, Lupe Gasca of Albert Lea; sisters Jenny Zamora of Arizona and Lillian Zamora of Columbia Heights and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adela; sister, Martha and great-grandson, Logan Diderrich.
