The Albert Lea Farmers Market will open its 34th year from 4 to 6 p.m. May 14 at the North Broadway parking lot.
New this year, the Saturday markets will be in the Northbridge Mall parking lot. The Wednesday markets will remain downtown. The farmers market goes through the end of October.
The farmers market is scheduling several fun and educational activities at both locations, including a scheduled activity at 4:15 p.m. each Wednesday, according to a news release.
The market offers a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, including some that are organic or chemical free. Almost all of the growers use sustainable farming methods and a minimum of chemicals. In addition, there will be baked goodies, jams and jellies, pickles and salsa, honey, maple syrup, candies, eggs, bedding plants, herbs and local craft items, to name a few. To find out moreĀ information about the vendors, look at the vendor profiles at www.albertleafarmersmarket.com or on Facebook.
A direct mailing will go out to all residents of Albert Lea and Freeborn County and will include a punch card people can bring to the market to earn special rewards.
The market accepts all major debit and credit cards, as well as Electronic Benefit Transfer cards, and WIC and Senior vouchers. The first $5 used on an EBT card each market day will earn a $5 extra bonus in market bucks. $10 vouchers each week will be given to people who come to both markets.
