Clarence Low, 1928-2014

Clarence Low Jr., 85, of Fertile, Iowa, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ in Fertile with the Rev. Rod Perry officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N Fourth St. in Clear Lake, Iowa, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, where military honors will be conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Memorials may be given to the Clarence Low Jr. Memorial Fund.
Clarence was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Northwood, the son of Clarence and Luella (Freeman) Low.
He grew up in the Manly, Ventura and Fertile areas. Following school, he farmed with his dad and brother. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following an honorable discharge, he came back to Fertile and farmed.
He enjoyed going to the five star elevator in Hanlontown and playing liars at the liars table in the Fertile Café. He really enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a special relationship with Harold “Sunny” Brunsvold and his family.
Clarence is survived by his brother, Gene (Lois) Low of Fertile; sisters Beverly (Ralph) Smith of McIntire, Iowa, and Donna (Earl) Miller of Clear Lake; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard ‘Buddy” Low; three nephews; two great-nephews and one great-niece.
