Larry J. Whelan, 61, of Albert Lea passed away April 7, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea from cancer.

Larry was born in 1952 to Leo Whelan and Deloris Grove. Larry grew up in Alden on a farm where he enjoyed riding and taking care of the horses his family raised. He was a fun loving son, father, grandfather and brother.

Larry is survived by his mother, Deloris Grove; children Grace (Randy) Lucht, Ricky and Marcy Whelan; grandchildren Janessa, Joseph, Karen and Larry; siblings Dennis (Francis) Gulbertson, Kevin, Steven and David Whelan, Arvilla (Dan) Bye, Karlene (Al Avelar) Whelan; and lots of nieces and nephews.

There will be a get together to remember Larry at noon June 7 at Pioneer Park in Albert Lea.

Sometime afterwards Larry’s ashes will be taken out to the farmland that he grew up on where they will be spread so that Larry can run and ride with the horses once again.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; his father, Leo Whelan and his niece, Alyssa.
