Peter Reshetar, 1924-2014

Peter George Reshetar, 90, of Austin died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at New Richland Care Center. He was born March 27, 1924, in Brainerd to George and Helen (Stenech) Reshetar. He attended school in Brainerd and later went to work as a mechanic. Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946, serving in World War II as an 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper.

On Sept. 3, 1946, Peter married Grace Lettie Thompson in Minneapolis. Early in their marriage, Peter and Grace moved from Minneapolis to Austin. The couple raised two children. Over the years, he was employed by Usem’s and then Sears until his retirement. Peter enjoyed being active and spent his leisure time woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting and helping Grace with gardening and canning. He kept a beautiful gladiolus garden. Grace passed away in Feb. 2009.

Peter is survived by his children Ronald (Janet) Reshetar of Alden and Judy (Ronald) Lunt of Barrington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Eric (Christine) Lunt, Brian Lunt, Christian (Lissa) Lunt and Blake (Susan) Lunt, all of Illinois, David (Lori) Hensche, Daniel (Amanda) Hensche, both living in Minnesota, and Bethanie (Shelton) Crowder of Kentucky; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a brother, William Reshetar, of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Reshetar; his wife, Grace Reshetar; his brothers John, Joseph, Harry and George; and his sisters Helen, Mary and Anne.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
