MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County water patrol will resume its search for a car that sunk in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis.

Authorities don’t yet know if there was anyone inside the car when it landed in the river Sunday morning. A jogger spotted the vehicle in the river and called 911. Searchers trolled the river for nine hours before ending their search Sunday evening. Officials say the rain and strong current made search efforts difficult.

Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies planned to resume their search about 8 a.m. Monday. Sheriff’s Maj. Darrell Hugget says it’s possible car thieves had pushed a stolen vehicle into the river.
