2 performers cancel fair plans

Two nights of entertainment at the Grandstand at the Freeborn County Fair this summer have seen changes, after two of the previously scheduled performers canceled, according to the fair board.
Instead of country music singer-songwriter Jon Pardi on Wednesday, July 30, the fair board has contracted with up-and-coming country music artist Craig Campbell.
Canadian country music artist Terri Clark will replace Grammy Award winner Gretchen Wilson for the Saturday, Aug. 2, performance.
Fair board member Mike Woitas said board members found out about two months ago that Pardi joined the Dierks Bentley tour and then found out last week that Wilson’s doctor put her on voice rest for the summer.
“In 15 years, we’ve never had two entertainers in one year have a change of plans,” Woitas said. “It’s very unfortunate we had to make some last-minute changes, but when the doctor says you can’t sing, there’s nothing we can do about it.”
He said people who purchased reserve seating for Pardi’s concert have already been notified and been given the opportunity to exchange tickets for Campbell’s concert or get a refund. The same will be done with people who had purchased reserve seating for Wilson’s concert.
The remaining days of Grandstand entertainment will remain the same:
• Country music singer-songwriter Eric Paslay will perform Tuesday, July 29.
Paslay released his debut single in mid-2011 called “Never Really Wanted,” and co-wrote Jake Owen’s No. 1 single “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.”
• Up-and-coming country music artist Thomas Rhett will perform Thursday, July 31.
Rhett, the son of Rhett Akins, is expected to be the largest draw.
He has gained recent popularity for his single “It Goes Like This.”
• Country music duo Montgomery Gentry will perform Friday, Aug. 1.
Montgomery Gentry has had more than 20 chart singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including No. 1 hits “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” “Something to be Proud of,” “Lucky Man” and “Roll with Me.”
Reserved seats are $27 per seat per show, according to the fair website. The shows will begin at 8:30 p.m.
The fair kicks off July 29 and runs through Aug. 3.
On the final night of the fair will be the annual demolition derby.
