Editorial: Time for public to get involved

While the state Senate and House bonding bills have items for Albert Lea, it’s time for the public to let legislators know the importance of funding those projects — the dredging of Fountain Lake and the state bike trail to Hayward.

The House had both. The Senate only offered a small portion of the dredging project.

Once the Senate passes its bill, the Senate and House will negotiate and eventually compromise on a final bill. This is the vital stretch, and it’s time for residents to contact Sen. Dan Sparks and Rep. Shannon Savick to speak out about projects.

The negotiations between the Senate and House are likely to include cuts, so now is the time to get vocal. The projects that move forward are often the ones with the most outspoken local support.

It’s good to contact House and Senate leaders, too. They work for you, the voters, and it is your constitutional right to contact your lawmakers. Exercise this right.
