A third person threw his hat in the ring Friday for the District 27A House of Representatives seat.
Thomas Price, 55, of rural Alden, is running with the Independence Party.
Price will face off against incumbent District 27A Rep. Shannon Savick, DFL-Wells, and Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea.
A refrigeration mechanic for the Minnesota Department of Administration, Price presently works at the Minnesota Capitol.
“Working for the Department of Administration in St. Paul, I’m seeing money get spent left and right,” he said.
He said he wants to be a part of a government that is fiscally responsible and careful in its spending.
He also thinks the state should provide low-interest loans for any college student who is in need of financial support.
“Kids are our most valuable asset, and we need to help them get their education,” he said.
Price, who lives between Alden and Freeborn in Carlston Township, said he is striving for a positive campaign and he commends Savick and Bennett in running for office.
Over the years, Price worked as a counselor at a boys’ ranch in Austin and as a teacher at the Gerard Academy and Pacelli Catholic School. He has two teaching licenses.
He and his wife, Tami, have two children.
