ABERDEEN, S.D. — The family of former Northern State University basketball coach Don Meyer said he’s in hospice care in Aberdeen.
The family said in a statement that Meyer’s health has been declining over the past several months, and after a three-day stay at a hospital with a feeding tube he is now at home in hospice care.
Meyer retired from coaching in 2010 with a then-NCAA record 923 victories in 38 seasons with Northern State, Lipscomb University in Tennessee and Hamline University in Minnesota. The native of Wayne, Neb., is 69 years old.
Meyer in 2008 was critically injured in a car accident that later resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Doctors discovered during his treatment following the crash that he had an inoperable form of cancer.
