TAYLORS FALLS — A swift current on the St. Croix River in Chisago County has slowed the search for a man presumed drowned after trying to rescue his nephew.
Boats were in the water in Taylors Falls Tuesday, but Sheriff Rick Duncan said it was no longer safe to drag the river because of the fast-moving water. Search crews scanned the river banks and the water’s surface.
Twenty-one-year-old Tou Hu Vang, of Coon Rapids, disappeared after jumping in the river to help his 11-year-old nephew Sunday. The two were fishing when the boy fell into the river. A bystander heard Vang yelling for help, jumped into the river and brought the boy to safety.
