Taxes drive people away from Minnesota

Democrats like Shannon Savick have said higher taxes will not drive away higher income earners. Recent articles seem to tell a different story. Many retirees are moving to low-tax states and higher-income former Minnesota residents are being tracked down by the Minnesota Department of Revenue to find any ties to Minnesota so they can be taxed.

Accountants are putting on classes for people wanting to leave the state with the result of Minnesota lawyers, accountants and medical providers losing customers. A person using these services in Minnesota can be taxed as a Minnesota citizen even if they spend little time in the state. I know of two couples who moved out of Minnesota, one to Wisconsin and one to Iowa, where Social Security income is taxed at a lesser amount or not at all. We need to control spending to control taxes.
