I’m writing in response to the letter in the April 24 issue, “Compassion is a Democratic trait.” That letter was in response to a letter by George Lundstrom on April 15.

First of all I want to state that I do not believe all Democrats are like the author of the April 24 letter or even think like him.

However, the writer likes to label Republicans as rich, uncompassionate people. He doesn’t even believe Dr. Lundstrom’s letter. He assumed that his parents had good jobs and sacrificed a lot for him, meaning money. I guess it didn’t occur to him that being a hard worker and a good role model is a means of support. I assure you Dr. Lundstrom was not born with a silver spoon in his month.

I grew up in North Minneapolis and attended Gethsemane Lutheran Church with George Lundstrom. He lived in Brooklyn Center, which was the adjoining community. Both neighborhoods were predominantly blue-collar workers. Many of the homes in that area were referred to as “cracker boxes.” They were built after the war for middle-class families.

I’m not going to bore our readers with what I, a Republican, have done for the Average Joe. However, letter writer, you may come by and I will tell you. I just want you to know that I do not feed my ego by keeping a scrapbook. I have better things to do.
