Funeral services for Benjamin M. Anderson, 90, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. James Kassera will officiate. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Emmons. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is assisting the family. Ben died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at his home.
Benjamin Morris Anderson was born on Dec. 6, 1923, in Worth County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Betsy (Troe) Anderson. Ben was baptized at Lime Creek Synod Church in rural Lake Mills on Jan. 3, 1924. He attended Lime Creek Lutheran School and Scarville Christian Day School. Ben graduated from Scarville High School in 1942 and then attended Bethany Lutheran College. Benjamin worked for the Albert Lea Creamery and in 1960 began working for the Albert Lea School District, a job he had until his retirement. Ben and Ardis Palma Jordahl were married in 1953 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
Survivors include his children Iris (Bob) Giles and Arline Walker; grandchildren William (Natasha) Walker, Ann (Jason) Qual and Laura Walker; great-grandchildren Ashley Hagen, Olivia Qual, Michael LaCore, Anna Walker and Carter Schouviller; brother, Donald (Barbara) Anderson; sister, Orla Peterson; brothers-in-law Donald (Phyllis) Jordahl and Arthur (Darlene) Jordahl; sisters-in-law Dorothy (Robert Schmidt) Cobb, Eunice Twiss and Lavonne (Dan) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardis; sisters Beatrice Anderson and Kathryn Anderson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Kermit Jordahl, Carmen Putz Johnson, Galen Johnson, Mike Twiss, Leona Jordahl, Valborg Johnson, John Jordahl, Martin Putz, John Schmidt and Justin Petersen; and niece, Gretchen Hartman.
