Gary L. Verdoorn, 61, of Iowa City, Iowa, died March 27, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Edgewater Bay Pavillion, 1940 Edgewater Drive in Albert Lea.

Gary was born in Blooming Prairie to Mary K. Olson and A. Eugene Verdoorn. He graduated from Iowa City High School in Iowa City in 1971 and went on to get his bachelor’s degree in insurance from the University of Iowa.

Gary’s surviving family includes his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Valerie Verdoorn; grandson, Aiden; and his mother and stepfather Mary and LeRoy Olson. His siblings include Lynn Verdoorn Doser, Elsie Olson, Rani Verdoorn (John), Jeff Verdoorn (Ann), Mike Verdoorn (Luann), Troy Verdoorn (Kelly) and Stacey Bahr (Dave) along with numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and a very special friend, Lori Lacina.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, A. Eugene and Ellie Verdoorn; grandparents Henry and Eva Verdoorn, George and Eunice Mueller and Arlene Olson; and niece, Meaka McAllister.
