NORTHWOOD — After falling behind 5-2 at the end of the third inning, the Lake Mills softball team rallied with seven unanswered runs Thrsday and won 9-5 over Northwood-Kensett.

“We struggled a little bit defensively, but offensively we came back and hit the ball when we needed to” said Lake Mills coach Matt Daniels. “We ran the bases well, and we got ahead and stayed ahead.”

Daniels attributed the comeback to well-timed aggressiveness at the plate and persistence on defense.

Cassidy Cox and Kelcey Srp led the Bulldogs with three hits each.

According to Vikings coach Daryl Love, starting pitcher Shelby Low was playing through a groin injury from being hit while running the bases.

“It took a little steam off of her throws,” he said. “And obviously they did a good job of adjusting to it.”

Despite the injury, Low finished the game. She retired seven batters and walking nine.

Next, Lake Mills will play at 6 p.m. today at Osage. Northwood-Kensett will play at 7 p.m. today at West Fork.
