Funeral services for Richard “Dick” Godtland will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Janet White will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Dick Godtland, 73, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1940, in Albert Lea to Arthur Sr. and Grace (Clementson) Godtland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. He graduated from Albert Lea Senior High in 1958. Dick was united in marriage to Sandy Brabec on Mar. 30, 1963, and they were blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was employed by Streater as a Lead Man on the Paint Line and retired after 44 years in 2005. Richard led a simple, but very content and happy life. He was a sports enthusiast who also enjoyed watching the Weather Channel and old westerns. He enjoyed bowling with his brothers and was a member of the Eagles.

Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandy Godtland, of Albert Lea; daughter, Shari, and her son, Jordan, of San Antonio; son, Daniel, his wife, Jill, and two children, Cole and Ashlee, of Sacramento; daughter, Denise, and her sons, Jonathan (and family) and Aaron, of San Antonio; sisters, Georgia Johnson and Lois Undahl, of Albert Lea; brothers, LuVerne Godtland, of Albert Lea and Ronald (Karen) Godtland, of Conger; brother-in-law, John Brabec, of Albert Lea; sister-in-laws Jeannette Godtland, of Albert Lea, and Olive Godtland, of Benedict; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Art Sr. and Grace Godtland; his father and mother-in-law, Louie and Millie Brabec; five brothers, Glenn, Don, Ellsworth, Arthur Jr., and Buddy; two sisters, Arlene Godtland and Ruth Whiteis; in-laws, Arnold Johnson, Eleanor Godtland, Dorothy Godtland, Dale Whiteis Sr., Jeanie Godtland, DuVerne Undahl, Beverly Brabec, Mrs. Beverly Brabec, and Gary Brabec; nephews, Jerry Johnson, David Godtland, Dale Whiteis Jr., Greg Brabec, Moses Abrego, David Brekke, and John “Curtis” Brabec; and nieces, Marcie Godtland and Georgia Godtland.

Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea Hospice or Grace Lutheran Church.

Dick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed. God bless his memory.
