DETROIT LAKES — Zebra mussels have been confirmed in the Detroit Lakes area.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says a person collecting shells on Lake Melissa in Becker County found a zebra mussel on the south end of the popular lake.
Lake Sallie, upstream from Melissa, was searched and zebra mussels were not found there.
Mill Pond and Minnow Pond are connected to Lake Melissa by the Pelican River. Reports say the ponds also have been declared infested with the invasive pest.
