Betty Y. Schmidthuber, 83, of Lake Mills, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills from cancer.

Dale R. Schmidthuber, 84, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills with Kermit Singelstad officiating and military rites performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post 235.

Their family will host a buffet gathering where public is also invited from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday afternoon at Rice Lake Country Club in rural Lake Mills.

Betty Yvonne (Lukecart) Schmidthuber was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Hutchinson, to Cecil and Leone (Fisher) Lukecart. She grew up and attended schools in Albert Lea.

Dale Rollo Schmidthuber was born on Feb. 2, 1929, in Worth County, to Michael and Ragnhild “Lolla” (Helland) Schmidthuber. He grew up and attended schools in Emmons and Lake Mills.

They were united in marriage on July 17, 1954, in Mason City. They moved to Lake Mills during a blizzard on March 10, 1956.

Betty worked at Deluxe Manufacturing in Lake Mills for many years before she fulfilled a dream to become a hairstylist. On March 11, 1976, she graduated from Capri Cosmetology College in Mason City. Upon graduation and receiving her license from the state of Iowa she opened Betty’s Hair Styling on Main Street in Lake Mills. Betty had her salon until she retired, and then she was able to enjoy her passion of golf with Dale and their many friends.

Dale graduated from Emmons High School. After graduation, he purchased a filling station on Main Street in Emmons. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. After he returned from war, Dale went to work for Interstate Power Co. for 38 years where he remained working until his retirement. Dale’s true passion was Rice Lake Golf and Country Club.

Dale and Betty are survived by their daughter, Karen Christensen of New Mexico, and son, Lee Schmidthuber of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Jodi Christensen of Texas, Joshua Christensen of New Mexico, Amy Schmidthuber, Taylor Schmidthuber and Sam Schmidthuber of Pennsylvania; three great-granddaughters, Jordyn Yates of Texas, Celia Christensen and Gabriela Christensen of New Mexico; brother Leo Schmidthuber of Lake Mills; a sister Doris Stamatelos of West Des Moines; sister-in-law, Marjorie Lukecart of Albert Lea; and numerous nieces and nephews.

They are preceded in death by their parents; son Craig Schmidthuber; brothers Russell and Horace Schmidthuber, Kenneth Lukecart, Marshall Lukecart and Robert Lukecart; sisters Gladys Lande, Viola Gavle, Irene Lande and Dorothy Lukecart McFarland; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Their family would like to thank and pay special tribute to Nancy and Richard Oltman. Nancy was always referred to as Dale and Betty’s guardian angel.
