EMMONS — An Emmons home was damaged by fire Sunday night after a fire started in the basement.
All occupants of the home, at 706 Knoll Road, were able to get out without injury, according to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Initial reports indicated the fire started in the basement, and flames could be observed through the basement windows.
The release stated deputies responded to the house at 7:45 p.m. The scene was cleared by 9 p.m.
Authorities believe the fire started from acetone that had previously been placed on the floor to soften carpet glue. The fumes from the acetone were ignited by the pilot light in the basement.
Freeborn County property records list the home’s owners as Shannon Olson and Shane Goskeson.
It is unclear how many people were home when the fire started. Other areas of the house sustained smoke damage, but the extent to which the dwelling was damaged remains unclear.
The Emmons Fire Department doused the blaze while Gold Cross Ambulance Service stood by.
