Owen Obermeyer, 1937-2014

Owen Dean Obermeyer, 77, of Kiester died Friday, July 11, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Revs. Greg Ofsdahl and David Hernes will officiate, and burial will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Owen was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Albert Lea, the son of Harry and Helena (Ahnemann) Obermeyer. He graduated from Kiester High School in 1955. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Westerlund in Bricelyn on Aug. 24, 1958. Together they had three children. He farmed with his brother Gus and lived on the family farm. He enjoyed the animals, the change of seasons and the busyness of the fall harvest. Owen enjoyed visiting with people, traveling to warm places, learning about history, going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, having coffee in town and mowing his lawn.
Owen is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Verlie (Wayne) Brandt of Owatonna and their daughter, Jamie Brandt, of Effie, Karen (Timothy) Babb of Mound and Dean (Alice) Obermeyer of Newnan, Ga.; siblings Catherine Olson of Blue Earth and Eugene “Gus” (Sandy) of Bricelyn; and brother-in-law, Lawrence “Bucky” (Charlie) Westerlund, of Eden Prairie.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wane (Mary Ann); mother and father-in-law, Dutch and Jimmie Westerlund; and brother-in-law, John Olson.
