Ronald Andersen, 1957-2014

A memorial service for Ronald “Ron” C. Andersen will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Ron passed away suddenly at the age of 57.

Ronald was born May 22, 1957, to Albert and Virginia (Ness) Andersen at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Ron graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1975 and later graduated from Austin Vocational College in 1976. After his schooling, Ron went to work for Boyd and Jacks, the Albert Lea Parks Department, Weyerhauser and Gold’s Gym in Santa Monica, Calif.

Ron was actively involved in the local YMCA. The Y was a big part of Ron’s life. He met a lot of friends there and enjoyed going multiple times a week. In his earlier years, he took part in karate, lettered in gymnastics and was in a Mr. Minnesota bodybuilding competition. He and his father always took a fishing trip up north to the Lake of the Woods. He also enjoyed baseball, motorcycles and cars. His favorite music included the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. Lastly, Ron was a man with a sense of humor and he was always making people laugh.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Albert “Abbey” Andersen and Virginia Andersen; his grandparents; as well as many aunts and uncles.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory are his sister, Marilee, and her husband, Nick Gustitus, of Albert Lea; a nephew, Shane Gustitus, and his wife, Arianne Learn, and their daughter, Tenley, of Nicollet; a niece, Erin, and her husband, Jared Wilson, and their daughter, Lily, of Lake Jackson, Texas; as well as many other loving cousins, relatives and friends.
