The Albert Lea Youth Baseball Association’s five teams wrapped up a summer on the diamond, and a pair of its squads posted outstanding records.
The 11-and-under Blue Team finished with a 13-2 record, and the 12-and-under team was 17-3.
The 12-and-under team took second place at a tournament on June 25 at Fairmont to qualify for the 32-team state tournament.
ALCB president and 12-and-under coach Jack Rovang said his highlight of the season was a rally in the state-qualifying game against Jackson.
“We fell behind by four runs in the top of the seventh and scored five in the bottom to win 9-8,” he said.
At the state tournament in Sartell on July 25, 26 and 27, Albert Lea lost its first two games — 4-2 against Maple Lake and 8-4 against Shakopee — but ended on an upswing with a 13-3 victory over Cottage Grove, Rovang said.
Rovang’s squad and the 11-and-under Blue team both won their regular season league championships and their end-of-the-year tournaments, he said.
Rovang wanted to thank Union Center for sponsoring three teams. Minnesota Corrugated Box, Tiger City Sports and the Albert Lea Moose Club also provided assistance, he said. Rovang also wanted to thank Jody Davis for her help before and during the season and Tammy Jerdee for help during the season.
