A Saturday morning crash on Lakeview Boulevard in Albert Lea resulted in a car upside down on its roof in Fountain Lake’s Dane Bay, according to police.
No one was injured.
Sixteen-year-old Deven Hoffman-Meyer of Albert Lea was reportedly driving south on Lakeview Boulevard in the direction of Lakeview Elementary School at about 9:30 a.m. when he reportedly failed to make the curve at the road’s intersection with Blackmer Avenue.
Hoffman-Meyer’s 1999 Volkswagen Jetta went up over the curb, cut through some grass and ended up upside down in the water. The car was partially submerged with its undercarriage and wheels sticking up outside of the water.
Hoffman-Meyer and his 15-year-old passenger, Garrett Dion of Albert Lea, exited the car by rolling down the back-door windows, police stated.
Passersby reported the crash, and when authorities arrived both teenagers were out of the car.
Police said speed and wet roads were factors. Hoffman-Meyer was cited.
The website Weather Underground reported Albert Lea received about a half inch of rain on Saturday.
Dane Bay is on the southwest corner of Fountain Lake along Blackmer Avenue.
