WEST ST. PAUL — Thousands are expected to attend funeral proceedings for a fallen Mendota Heights police officer after visitation services drew hundreds of mourners.

The visitation was held Tuesday for Mendota Heights Officer Scott Patrick at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in West St. Paul.

Patrick was fatally shot during a traffic stop in West St. Paul last week. Officials expect 3,000 to 5,000 people today for his funeral.

Patrick will receive full law enforcement honors before his burial, including a low-level flyover by state patrol helicopters.

Gov. Mark Dayton ordered U.S. and Minnesota flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today in his honor.

Law enforcement officials are asking the public to line the nearly 8-mile-long funeral procession route. The service will be streamed on cable and YouTube.
