Loretta Prantner, 1915-2014

Loretta M. Prantner, 99, of Austin passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. Loretta Mae was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Freeborn County to Joseph and Anna (Cerny) Prihoda. Loretta attended Austin High School. She was united in marriage to Anton Lukes in Glenville on Aug. 19, 1931.
Loretta and Anton had three children, Donna, Rita and Marcine, before Anton’s passing on July 22, 1937. Loretta married Milo “Mike” Prantner on Jan. 8, 1943 in Colorado, and was blessed with a fourth daughter, Suzanne.
Loretta worked at Wilson & Co. during the war, and clerked and waitressed over the years. Following her husband’s return home from military duty, Loretta and Mike farmed many years throughout Freeborn, Steele and Mower counties. In 1963 they moved to Blooming Prairie where they owned and operated Mike’s Place. For several years Loretta also enjoyed working at Harriet’s Dres-Wel in Blooming Prairie. Her husband Mike passed away on Nov. 3, 1990, and in 1991 Loretta moved to Austin’s Pickett Place.
Loretta was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Austin, Austin American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Austin. She enjoyed bowling, cards, bingo, casino trips, crocheting, family get togethers, volunteering at the American Legion Hall on “sandwich night” and following her beloved Minnesota Twins!
Loretta is survived by her daughters Donna Hoyne of Bloomer, Wis., Marcine (Donald) McClary of Austin and Suzanne (Bill) Hogendorf of Austin; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Cafourek, of Glenville; sister-in-law, Lois Prihoda, of Albert Lea; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Anton Lukes and Milo Prantner; daughter and son-in-law Rita (James) Martin; son-in-law, Roger Hoyne; grandson, Wade Longworth and granddaughter, Georgia McClary; great-grandsons Sanford Hoyne and Milo Gerow; and brothers and sisters-in-law Jack (Elizabeth) Prihoda, Clarence (Sophie) Prihoda and Floyd Prihoda.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in National Bohemian Cemetery in Myrtle.
