Visitation for Maxine will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Maxine (Moe) Nelson was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Lake Mills to parents John and Anna (Twedt) Moe. She was baptized Feb. 2, 1922, by the Rev. John Hanson and was confirmed June 14, 1936, in Scarville, Iowa, by the Rev. S.J. Fretheim. Maxine attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1939.

On Sept. 11, 1940, Maxine was united in marriage with Jimmie Nelson at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. The couple made their home farming in rural Northwood. Jimmie passed away in 1975.

Maxine was a loving homemaker and a hard-working farm wife. She enjoyed flower gardening, camping, riding around the farm on her golf cart and dancing. It was at a dance, over 35 years ago, that Maxine met her beau, Raymond Oleson.

Taking care of her family over the years brought Maxine great joy. She always acknowledged birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and other special days with cards for all her loved ones. She was a wonderful cook who made amazing German chocolate cake and beef roast, among other specialties.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Gary) Thompson, of Albert Lea; partner, Raymond Oleson, of rural Northwood; three grandchildren, Dan (Jeannie) Tenold and Brenda (Scott) Moretz, all of Northwood, and Mike Thompson of California; great-grandchildren Kelsey Tenold, Tiarra Tenold, Tanner Iseminger, Colton Moretz, and Casson Moretz; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Maxine is also survived by Ray’s family: two daughters, Roxanne (Rick) Gordon of Plymouth, Iowa, and Shelly (Pete) Apel of Rudd, Iowa; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Tenold; five sisters; and one brother.
