STILLWATER — A judge has decided an Oakdale woman will serve at least another seven years in prison for killing her newborn baby when she was a teenage mother.
Judge John Hoffman on Friday sentenced 24-year-old Nicole Beecroft to 14.5 years in prison for killing the child.
The judge gave Beecroft credit for more than seven years she already has served in prison or jail.
Reports said Hoffman decided on a sentence toward the middle of state sentencing guidelines. The judge called the case “a tragedy for all involved.”
Beecroft was 17 when she was convicted of first-degree murder in 2007 for stabbing her newborn baby to death. The Minnesota Supreme Court granted her a new trial. Last fall, Hoffman found her guilty of second-degree murder, a lesser charge.
