NEW ULM — The century-old New Ulm Popcorn Wagon has stopped popping after inspectors found it doesn’t comply with state food requirements.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture said there isn’t water available for people manning the wagon to wash their hands.

The Brown County Historical Society’s board decided not to make updates to the red and yellow wagon, which turned 100 years old last month.

The society’s museum director said no one has complained about getting sick from the wagon’s snacks. He said labor and licensing costs for the changes would be too expensive.

The society’s board plans to keep the option to upgrade open for future consideration.
