Lyle High School Class of 1949 Reunion

The Lyle High School class of 1949 had the 65th reunion Aug. 2 at the Lyle Eatery. A lunch was served and everyone looked at old yearbooks and photo albums to reminisce.

The class has met every five years since graduating, but has now decided to meet every year.

There were 25 in the class originally, but now only 12 survive. There were five classmates present at the reunion.

VFW Auxiliary

The Freemond Madson Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary met at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the American legion hall with President Frances Cameres presiding.

The departments and national reports were read and acted on. Eunice Hatleli, community service chairwoman, was honored with a citation by National VFW Post and Auxiliary for her reports of all the community service our post and auxiliary members have done this past year. Congratulations to her for her diligent reporting for both post and auxiliary.

The regular business meeting continued with the draping of the charter for Sister Harriet Bartell. Bless her memory.

Instead of a noon luncheon for membership roundup, because of poor attendance, there will be a coffee and rolls brunch from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Legion hall. There will be cancer pins for sale for $4. This year they are patriotic penguins “marching together for our veterans,” the department president’s theme. There will be some door prizes. Dues are $15 for continuous members and $18 for new members.

There will be a yellow ribbon ceremony Tuesday at the Harley Davidson shop. Motorcycle riders carrying a special flag will ride in sometime between noon and 1 p.m. in their effort to raise money for cancer. There will be a complimentary lunch and a flag folding ceremony. All are invited to participate.

Betty Jones and President Cameres attended the District 1 planning meeting Aug. 2 in Cannon Falls.

The next District 1 meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at 135 W. Oakdale St. at the Owatonna Post and Auxiliary. More will be said at next month’s meeting.

Vickie Allen served lunch and she also won the door prize.

The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the American Legion hall.
