DULUTH — Duluth police say a man is in critical condition after cutting himself and being shot by an officer.
Reports said officers responded to a domestic disturbance report early Monday. A woman told police her 34-year-old husband had cut himself and was bleeding.
Police said the man locked himself in a basement and said he wanted to die. They say blood was visible on the floor.
Officers forced open the door and deployed a dog. They said an officer fired his gun and struck the man after he refused to drop his knife. They didn’t say where he was hit.
The officer was placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol. He’s a seven-year-veteran of the department.
Police said the man was stable in a hospital Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
