50 years ago: 1964
• Team members of the All-Church League championship team from First Lutheran were Kent Dugstad, Dean Wick, Dick Ochs, Ray Weitzel, Dick Arnold, Dick Grinley, Dick (Cannonball) Nelson, Dick Lindell, Dick Anfinson, Merril (Ditto) Nelson, Rog Thompson, Barry Blackhawk and Dick Sickels.
• Albert Lea Federal won the Albert Lea Slow Pitch title with a 9-2 win over Schmidt/Elbow Room. Dick Hassler was the winning pitcher and Sharon Kazemba had two doubles for Federal. Albert Lea Federal team members were Dave English, Bill Malepsy, Clair Friday, Ron Swanson, Dave Elvabek, Bill Danielson, Dan Kruse, Jim Malepsy, Dick Hassler, Tom Benson, Duane Hahn and Sharon Kazemba.
• Northside Mobil defeated the Moose Lodge 7-5 in an Albert Lea Women’s Softball League game. Joyce Schreiber had three hits for the Moose Lodge.
25 years ago: 1989
• Mick Hockinson of Albert Lea won the Green Lea Club Tournament title. Ken Ulman won the presidential flight. Other winners were: Dick Miller, first flight; Jeff Boysen, second flight; Larry Runden, third flight; Dave Sandon, fourth flight; Kurt Hoyne, fifth flight; Harley Miller, sixth flight; John Sullivan, seventh flight; Richard Diggens, eighth flight; Don Twito, ninth flight; Dale Grinolds, 10th flight; Jack Werner, 11th flight; and Terry Ganrude, 12th flight.
• Doug Christopherson was named the new head coach for the Albert Lea varsity boys’ basketball team.
• Albert Lea native Jack Sutton won the National Power Boat title in the 25 Modified Hydro Class.
10 years ago: 2004
• The Albert Lea Union Center U12 baseball team placed third at the Minnesota State Tournament and finished the season with a 35-5 record. Team members were Cory Hansen, Conner Kortan, Cole Sorenson, Dillon Stolt, Ryan Gunderson, Luke Grossman, Carter Kortan, Kyle Kriewall, Brock Casterton, Aaron Klatt, Colby Strilaeff, Jordan Cooper and Nick Dulas. Coaches were Jack Rovang, Jack Kortan, Dave Klatt and Chuck Cooper.
• The Albert Lea Moose 13-year-old baseball team finished the season with a 16-3 record and was the champion of its league. Team members were Tyler Haaland, Ryan Montgomery, Cody Hansen, Logan Kortan, Troy Seberson, Torey Christensen, Nick Flores, Michael Falk, Ethan Reed, Blake Adams, Josh Jensen, Jordan Holland and Jered Talamantes. Coaches were Jack Kortan, Guy Haaland and Jon Hansen.
