HASTINGS — Court documents say the man charged with fatally shooting a Mendota Heights police officer told a woman he planned to use deadly force if he was stopped by authorities.
Brian Fitch Sr. is accused of killing officer Scott Patrick, who had stopped his car in West St. Paul July 30. The 39-year-old Fitch had three warrants out for his arrest when he was stopped.
The search warrants said Fitch’s ex-girlfriend told investigators she spoke with him on July 29 and that he sounded weird and angry. The woman told police Fitch said he planned to shoot police if he was stopped.
Fitch is due in Dakota County District Court today on murder charges. He’s also facing charges in Ramsey County where he was arrested following a shootout with police.
