AUSTIN — Two people were arrested after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Mower County Sunday night.
A 27-year-old Missouri woman and a 24-year-old Missouri man were stopped at about 8:35 p.m. by the Minnesota State Patrol on Interstate 90, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger. The suspects took off in their car, a Lincoln MKZ, that the State Patrol found was stolen from Springfield, Mo.
The State Patrol requested help from Mower County law enforcement, which found the car going eastbound on I-90 at about 100 mph, according to Krueger. Police used stop sticks under the 28th Street Northeast bridge and under the Highway 56 bridge several miles east of Austin to bring the car to a stop. Krueger said an errant stop stick also took out two tires on an Austin squad car.
Police arrested the two suspects and also found stolen goods from Osceola, Iowa, as well as narcotic pills and a small amount of marijuana. Krueger said the suspects are in jail pending formal charges.
