Annual fall market returns

BOLAN, Iowa — The community of Bolan,  with a population of 24 including the suburbs, is hosting its 12th annual Bolan Fall Market Saturday.

The United Methodist Church Women are hosting their traditional Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower-level of the Bolan Schoolhouse. The Bolan Schoolhouse & Cultural Center is hosting a donation pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m.  A variety of market vendors under the big maple trees and along Tulip Lane will be selling products from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 14th annual bike ride will travel from Bolan though the neighboring communities of Grafton, Carpenter and St. Ansgar.

Keyboard musician Sam Crosser will play from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and Betsy (Neerhof) Kirby from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The United Methodist Women will serve a scalloped potatoes and ham lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the schoolhouse. Enjoy homemade coleslaw, fresh baked bread, homemade jam and goodies. The Bolan community will have homemade pie with ice cream available as well.

“All aboard!” for the railroad program at 1 p.m. in the Barton No. 2 Schoolhouse in Bolan. A panel of great guest speakers will talk about their memories of the railroad that went through Bolan and other interesting railroad facts.  The panel includes  Russell Rosenberg, the last of the section crew that was stationed in Bolan; Tom Beck, son of a member of that crew; Don Pickerel, grandson of the last depot agent in Bolan; Phil Erdmann and Don Kenison, “Bolan Boys” that have memorable tidbits about the railroad; along with Richard Hynes sharing Manly railroad history.
