MINNEAPOLIS — The Blue Line train service has been restored between the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America after a train went off the tracks over the weekend.
Metro Transit said crews repaired the light rail line by 5 a.m. today, in time for the morning commute. Buses had been operating in place of trains after the derailment Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.
The transit agency said the train was forced off the track when a metal plate broke loose from the rail line and lodged under its wheel. The train hit a pole holding overhead power lines.
About 60 people were on the train, but no injuries were reported.
Rail service between downtown Minneapolis and the airport was unaffected.
