With a 3-2 home win Thursday against Forest City, the Lake Mills volleyball team won its 74th straight game against teams from the North Iowa Conference.

Lake Mills coach Jim Boehmer said at the beginning of the season that Forest City was “the easy favorite to win the NIC as they have a number of starters returning, including five All-Conference players.”

However, the Bulldogs were able to climb back from a 1-0 deficit to win Games 2 and 3 and win the match with a 15-11 victory in Game 5.

“Tonight’s match was one of the biggest matches we’ve had in our gym,” Boehmer said. “It was a packed house — standing room only.”

Four Lake Mills players had double-digit kills: Hailey Borgmeyer, 16; Cede Byrnes, 15; Sydney Larson, 10; and Madison Shifflett, 12.

Kelsea Heintzman had a team-high 47 assists, and Byrnes led the team with 24 digs.

Next, the Bulldogs (9-1 overall) will play at 9 a.m. at a tournament at Central Springs.
