STEWARTVILLE — Police have cited a Stewartville parent on a weapons violation after they say he brought a concealed handgun onto elementary school grounds.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Claymon said Tuesday that the Bonner Elementary School principal escorted the 29-year-old man off school property on Friday before notifying authorities. He said the man had a permit for the handgun, but all guns are prohibited on school property.
A school bus driver notified school officials that he had the gun. Claymon said this is the second time the bus driver noticed the man with something that appeared to be a gun. He said the driver didn’t report it the first time because he wasn’t sure it was a gun.
The school superintendent was unavailable to comment Tuesday.
