Hockey coach vs. diligent dad

ST. PAUL — Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican challenger Jeff Johnson are out with their first general-election campaign ads with about six weeks left in their race.
Dayton’s hockey-themed ad started running Tuesday and is used to cite a litany of first-term accomplishments while dubbing him a “darn good coach” calling the shots.
Johnson previewed his ad Wednesday that his campaign said would be on the air a day later. It shows Johnson hounding his kids as they mow the lawn or do their homework as he conveys that he’d do similar double-checking with government spending.
The Dayton spot doesn’t mention Johnson, but Democratic group ads are pummeling the GOP opponent.
Johnson goes after Dayton in his ad by calling him “out of touch” and prone to “wasting our money.”
