WACONIA — Authorities said a Waconia High School student and a college football player planned an attack that sent a standout prep basketball player to the hospital.
Investigators said a female high school student asked 18-year-old Oliver Smith to meet her in the parking lot of Westwood Community Church in Chanhassen last Sunday to discuss a personal matter.
As Smith was getting into the girl’s car, he was hit in the head and knees with a souvenir baseball bat by a 19-year-old man dressed in black. The two men scuffled and the suspect fled. The girl took Smith to a hospital in Chaska.
Police said the girl and the man, identified as a football player at Northern Arizona University, arranged the attack. The case has been referred to the Carver County Attorney’s Office.
