Kindler has the sheriff resume

A person’s actions coupled with his words are the true testimony to his integrity, character and competence.

Sheriff Bob Kindler served as a patrol deputy from 1987 to 1992, promoted to detective in 1992, again promoted to supervisor/investigator in 1995 and became sheriff in 2010.

Kurt Freitag has been a deputy for 19 years, producing not a single promotion under three different sheriffs.

As reported on his website, Sheriff Kindler has a bachelor’s degree, completed the Blandin Community Leadership Program, attended the Governor’s Conference on Emergency Management, received FEMA Domestic Preparedness Training, also received Minnesota Sheriff’s Association Training on jail administration and data practices, and participated in extensive law enforcement and leadership classes prior to being elected sheriff. (Go to his website to see the complete list.)

According to Mr. Freitag’s website, he served 6 1/2 years in the Army and about 10 years in the National Guard. He reached the rank of sergeant first class. He has no degree beyond high school. That’s it.

Last May, Sheriff Bob Kindler celebrated 31 years of marriage to Laurie.

Mr. Freitag is on his fourth marriage.

Sheriff Bob Kindler challenged the county bard’s decision that gave him a salary less than what he was receiving as supervisor/investigator. (Personally, I am still mystified by the board’s action.) He lost the challenge in court. Sheriff Bob Kindler abided by the ruling and moved on.

Mr. Freitag has made an issue of this even though he has produced SIX personal lawsuits in these following years: 1998, 1999, 2001, 2007, 2007, 2013.  One of the lawsuits was against Freeborn County.

If Mr. Freitag were to apply for the position of deputy in another county, what would be his chances of getting hired?

Words glibly thrown around in public are empty and deceiving, if they lack a foundation of integrity, character and competence.

My wife and I moved to Albert Lea in August of 2010, and through Daybreakers Kiwanis Club, it has been my privilege to gain a friend in Sheriff Bob Kindler since 2011.  Unquestionably, the people of Freeborn County are truly blessed to have him as their sheriff.
