ST. PAUL — A Minnesota prosecutor says he won’t file criminal charges in seven cases of alleged sexual misconduct involving eight Catholic priests, but St. Paul police are investigating three other cases.
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says that one of the three still under investigation is likely to lead to prosecution, without giving details.
Of the other seven cases, the statute of limitations has expired on three. Two priests suspected in one case died, there was not enough evidence to prove one and investigators could not identify the suspects in the other two.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has been under fire for its handling of such cases. It announced a settlement this week of a civil lawsuit over its failure to warn parishioners about an abusive priest.
